Things that OCCUPY my mind.
In November we put a sign in our window that says "IF YOU WANT TO OCCUPY WALL STREET, DO YOUR HOLIDAY SHOPPING AT A SMALL INDEPENDENT MERCHANT".
A statement that we support and believe in. Many customers commented on it. I made similar statements in several interviews with the press. Several local business on Spring Garden posted the same sign.
For the record, it is not a statement against the local Occupy movement. Perhaps somewhat in support of it. The gist here is that local businesses have a right to make such statements. If we say nothing, then we cannot complain that our clientele is uneducated in the issues challenging the independent merchants.
A blog on Openfile a online news site makes the case that because OCCUPYNS stages a protest at WalMart, that they therefore were in agreement with Atlantic Photo, and we should take the sign down. Sorry to have a opinion or express our beliefs, but then again isn't that what freedom of speech is all about? The writer Hilary Beaumont suggests we are taking aim at the Occupy movement. We aren't, but what if we were?
THE SIGN STAYS.
