Something New Is Blowing in the Wind

This past weekend Saltscapes magazine had their annual Saltscapes Expo consumer show at Exhibition Park in Halifax.  We, as has been the case for the past five years, had a booth featuring some of the many unique products we offer.

Celestron, the company that manufactures our microscopes and telescopes, has ventured into a new area of scientific interest – the weather and we’ve decided to go along for the ride.

At the show this year we were fortunate enough to be one of the very first companies in Canada to showcase Celestron’s new line of weather stations.  If there is one thing that we as Canadians have in common it is the weather.  The new weathers stations are not really on the market yet but we were able to get our hands on two of the models coming to market very soon.

The most popular at the show was the Deluxe Weather Station.  It features a large LCD display that showed inside and outside temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, and a current weather forecast.  It also included a rain gauge and wind speed and direction indicators that would be positioned outside and feed information wirelessly to the panel inside.  The external devices are battery operated and can be positioned up to 50 meters or 164 feet from the main panel.

Feedback was very positive and sales were brisk; so much so that our first shipment of deluxe stations is all but gone.  If you happen to be wandering down Spring Garden Road and look in one of our front windows you will see what one of our staff did with the remaining station.  The Anemometer (wind speed) is set up in the front window with a fan blowing on it and it’s sending that data back to the main LCD panel.

It would appear that this product is a hit and we will soon have several models to choose from at very reasonable prices.  Stop by and check them out.

Atlantic Photo really is more than just cameras.  Who knows what we’ll have at next years show…
